I couldn't let today go without commenting on the major event we're supposed to be experiencing! As I'm sure everyone has heard, today marks the end of the Mayan calendar, which is supposed to mean that the world ends today. I am of two opinions about this, which my friends have all heard.
1. Maybe the Mayans just got bored counting; that calendar was hand-carved out of rock, not nearly as easy as typing on the computer. And I'm sure the guy making it looked at it when he was done and said "Well that will freak someone out one day!"
2. This one is a bit of a technicality. The Mayans didn't have leap years, that's part of the Gregorian calendar we use. So really, the Mayan calendar ended sometime this summer. Now we know why here in the mitten it was hotter than hell!
Am I worried about the end of the world? Not really. If nothing else, the Christmas party I was going to on Saturday will simply be changed to the Post-Apocalyptic Raiding Party. And as long as I get myself some yarn from that, I'll be just fine.
Also as a side note did anyone else notice that today's date is a very interesting pattern? 1-2-2-1-1-2
